The striped bass fishing the past week or so has been quite interesting to say the least. There have been some pretty large schools of stripers in the Piscataqua R..Scaled down guitar minnows have been the most consistant catchers. Small herring still pack the river, back eddies and coves are all worth a cast or three. The fisherman on board last thursday had well over twenty stripers, the biggest thirty five inches and a good shot at a bluefin tuna with a flyrod.

Guitar MinnowThe striped bass fishing in the lower Piscataqua R. has been pretty good this past week or so. Small pods of stripers have been chasing small herring that are abundant. Flyfishing charters have been successful with 4" long white and olive flies stripped with an abrupt start followed by a longer than normal pause; often the fish take on the pause. Light Tackle charters have been doing well with 6" Sluggo's, vary the rate of retrieve; sometimes stripers like it fast and other times dead and falling.

Left the dock at 3am this morning, we had good luck right off, catching plenty of stripers from high 20's to 30's range. We spent about 4 hours fly fishing in the river, and outside the mouth. The Stripe Bass were keying into smaller flies, taking sometimes on the free fall.

nice stripe bassI apologize for the lack of reports, been too busy fishing to sit down and write. In general we've had a great beginning to the season, tons of bait, seem to be a good amount of large fish around the area. The fish got a little case of lock jaw for a few days last week, but the fish now seem to be biting again.

Give us a call, we'll get you out there and catch you some fish! 207-337-3214

The fishing was hot Tues. morning with stripers chasing sand eels. Guitar minnows and Butt Ugly did most of the work. Still plenty of baitfish in the river. The sea conditions prevented heading outside. Wed. evening was a bit slower with few fish showing, persistence paid off though. Thurs. morning was good in the river also was able to get outside where there were quite a few fish as well as bait, Guitar Minnow was the fly of the day. Mark
